Qbit: Tokenization Of US Securities
Bringing US stocks, bonds & ETFs on the Blockchain
Jul 2022 – Dec 2022
The core idea behind Qbit was to issue crypto tokens representing stocks of publicly traded US companies.
Qbit’s stock tokens would be 1:1 backed by securities deposited by US users in our custody or purchased by us on behalf of non-US users.
In the background, we worked with licensed US broker-dealers in an SEC-compliant way to buy/sell/hold the underlying securities in our custody.
The tokenization of stocks makes them liquid and usable on the blockchain for various applications such as permissionless borrowing, cross-border trading, and staking. We developed apps and partnered with other DeFi projects to address real-world use cases using our stock tokens. More details on the project are included in the above document.
Things I learned:
- Stock Trading: Trading APIs, how trades are executed behind the scenes.
- Blockchain development: Writing smart contracts, developing your own ERC token standards.
- Regulations: Process for getting US broker, money transmitter and crypto exchange license.
