Polygon’s Native Stablecoin
A Decentralized crypto-native stablecoin
Jan 2022 – May 2022
In early 2022, I began exploring the crypto space out of curiosity. That’s when I met Sandeep Nailwal, founder of Polygon, one of the biggest blockchains. He asked me to start a project (funded and supported by Polygon) to develop a native stablecoin for the Polygon ecosystem.
I built a team of crypto degens and worked closely with the DeFi team of Polygon to investigate, design and implement various stablecoin mechanisms, ultimately creating USM.
USM is a decentralized stablecoin backed by a backed of over-collateralized crypto assets. 1 USM ~= 1 USD at all times.
The USM protocol introduced many innovative, first-of-its-kind design features explained in the attached deck.
Things I learned:
- Blockchain basics: Solidity, smart contract audits, price oracles, blockchain analytics.
- Crypto concepts: Yield farming, liquid staking, AMMs, composability, DEX, etc.
- Protocol design: Studied designs and implementation of dozens of DeFi projects.
